19% of Voters Aged 85 and Above in Assam Choose Home Voting Option

Ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, over 26,000 elderly and persons with disabilities (PwD) have been granted approval for home voting. This initiative aims to ensure that all eligible voters, particularly those with mobility challenges, can participate in the electoral process without facing difficulties.

The decision is part of the Election Commission of India’s broader efforts to enhance voter accessibility and inclusivity. This home voting arrangement allows these individuals to cast their ballots from the comfort of their homes, promoting their right to vote while accommodating their specific needs.

In addition to the home voting option, the Election Commission has implemented various measures, such as the deployment of accessible polling booths and the provision of assistance for elderly and disabled voters at polling stations. These efforts reflect a commitment to ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their physical condition, have the opportunity to engage in the democratic process.

The Assam Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in early 2024, and voter participation is critical to the elections integrity and representation.
