19% of Voters Aged 85 and Above in Assam Choose Home Voting Option
In anticipation of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, over 26,000 elderly voters and persons with disabilities (PwD) have been granted approval to participate in home voting. This initiative aims to ensure greater accessibility and inclusivity within the electoral process, allowing these individuals to exercise their voting rights from the comfort of their homes.
The decision to implement home voting is part of a broader effort by the Election Commission of India to facilitate participation among marginalized groups, particularly in light of the challenges posed by mobility and health issues. The approval signifies a commitment to enhance voter engagement among the elderly and disabled populations.
As the electoral exercise nears, officials are expected to undertake necessary arrangements to ensure that the home voting process is smooth and secure. This includes deploying trained personnel to assist voters and ensuring that adequate measures are in place to maintain the integrity of the ballot.
The Assam Assembly elections will play a crucial role in determining the states leadership and governance for the upcoming term, making voter participation essential. The move towards home voting is a significant step in promoting democratic values and ensuring that all citizens have a voice in the electoral process.
