2026 Assembly Elections: Election Commission Implements Officer Transfers in Bengal Amid Protests Over Trinamool Ticket Denials
The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened in New Delhi to deliberate on and finalize candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam and Puducherry. This meeting comes as part of the BJPs strategic preparations for the elections, which are expected to take place in early 2024.
Assam, with 126 constituencies, is a significant state for the BJP, which aims to retain its majority after winning a second consecutive term in the 2021 elections. Meanwhile, Puducherry, which has a smaller assembly of 30 members, poses its own challenges as the BJP seeks to establish a stronger presence in the Union Territory, having previously formed a coalition government there.
The outcome of the candidate selection process will be critical for the BJPs electoral strategy as it gears up to address key issues pertinent to both regions, including economic development, healthcare, and local governance. The party is expected to announce the selected candidates in the coming weeks as part of its broader campaign efforts.
