25 Leopards Transferred from Maharashtra to Gujarats Vantara Facility, Reports Minister
The population of leopards in Maharashtra has experienced a significant increase, reportedly rising fourfold over the past decade. In addition to this growth in the leopard population, the state has also seen a remarkable recovery in its tiger numbers. As of now, Maharashtra is home to 444 tigers, a substantial increase from just 101 tigers recorded seven to eight years ago. Maharashtras Forest Minister, Ganesh Naik, shared these statistics, highlighting successful conservation efforts and initiatives aimed at protecting these big cats and their habitats.
The rise in leopard and tiger populations can be attributed to various factors, including the implementation of stricter wildlife protection laws, habitat restoration projects, and enhanced monitoring and anti-poaching efforts. Conservationists continue to advocate for the preservation of wildlife corridors and greater community engagement in protecting these species. The recovery of these populations is a positive indicator of the ecological health of the region.
