India Honors Maritime Personnel for Protecting Vital Energy Resources
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed his admiration for the bravery of Indian seafarers operating the LPG carriers Shivalik and Nanda Devi. These vessels successfully navigated the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz during a period of heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz serves as a key maritime passage for global oil shipments, with approximately one-fifth of the worlds oil supply transiting through this narrow waterway. The area has been marked by increased military activity, making it essential for crews to exercise caution while ensuring safe passage.
Sonowals remarks highlight the vital role that Indian seafarers play in maintaining international trade and securing energy supplies amidst potential risks. The Minister emphasized that the efforts of these individuals contribute significantly to the nation’s maritime security and the economy. He reaffirmed the governments commitment to supporting and enhancing the safety and well-being of Indian seafarers, who face challenges while serving in some of the worlds most strategically important waters.
