Railways Reported Savings of ₹6,000 Crore from Transition to Electric Power, Says Vaishnaw in Lok Sabha
During a recent discussion regarding the budgetary allocations for the Railway Ministry, a government official highlighted that the Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the second largest cargo carrier globally. This distinction underlines the organizations pivotal role in facilitating transportation and logistics within the nation and enhances its capacity to support the economy.
The Indian Railways has seen substantial growth in its freight operations, stemming from various initiatives aimed at modernizing infrastructure and service efficiency. In the fiscal year 2021-2022, it transported over 1.2 billion tonnes of freight, demonstrating its crucial contribution to the supply chain. As the demand for cargo transport continues to rise, the government is expected to invest in upgrading facilities, enhancing technology, and expanding services to maintain and improve its global standing in the logistics sector.
Furthermore, the request for increased grants is anticipated to support ongoing development projects, improve passenger services, and bolster safety measures across the railway network.
