PM Modi and UAE President Discuss Cooperation on Ensuring Safety of the Strait of Hormuz
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, have underscored the significance of maintaining secure and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. This critical maritime chokepoint, located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is vital for global oil shipments, with approximately 20% of the worlds petroleum passing through it.
The discussion occurred during a recent meeting, where both leaders emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to ensure maritime security in the region, which is of paramount importance to both countries given their economic ties and reliance on energy trade. The Strait of Hormuz has been a focal point of geopolitical tensions in the past, making such agreements essential for regional stability.
Prime Minister Modi’s remarks came amid India’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations with the UAE, particularly in the energy sector. The UAE is one of India’s key partners in oil imports, and securing safe passage through the Strait is crucial for both nations economic interests.
