KTR Suggests Renaming Streets in Hyderabad to Honor Mosquitoes, Critiques Civic Body

In a recent statement, K.T. Rama Rao, the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development in Telangana, humorously criticized the Hyderabad civic body regarding their approach to naming streets in the city. During a public interaction, he suggested that if the civic authority is considering the renaming of streets, they might as well rename them after mosquitoes, referring to the significant challenges posed by mosquito-borne diseases in urban areas.

KTR’s comments were part of a larger dialogue on urban management and public health, emphasizing the importance of effective initiatives to combat issues like malaria and dengue fever, which are exacerbated by stagnant water and inadequate waste management. His remarks highlight the ongoing struggles in making substantial improvements to the citys infrastructure and health standards.

The local government has been under pressure to enhance public health efforts and improve urban planning, particularly as the city continues to grow rapidly. By raising these points, KTR aims to foster a more proactive approach from the civic body in addressing not just aesthetic concerns, such as street naming, but also pressing public health challenges that impact residents.

This statement comes amidst ongoing efforts in urban redevelopment in Hyderabad, with significant investments being directed towards improving sanitation, waste management, and infrastructure to create a healthier environment for citizens.
