LPG Shortage Leads PM POSHAN Kitchens to Revert to Firewood, Impacting Women Workers

The PM POSHAN (Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman) scheme, which provides mid-day meals to approximately 11 crore children in 10.35 lakh schools, primarily catering to socially disadvantaged and low-income communities, is set to transition back to utilizing alternative fuels for food preparation.

This shift aims to promote sustainability and reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources like LPG and kerosene, addressing both environmental concerns and economic efficiencies. The use of alternative fuels, such as biogas and solar energy, can help in minimizing costs and promoting clean energy solutions in school kitchens.

Launched as part of the National Food Security Mission, the PM POSHAN scheme not only focuses on improving nutritional outcomes for children but also aims to enhance their attendance and learning capabilities by ensuring that they receive a balanced meal during school hours. This recent move reflects the Indian governments commitment to fostering an eco-friendly approach while ensuring that children receive the essential nutrition they require for their growth and development.
