Karnataka Ranks Second in Electric Vehicle Charging Network with 2,039 Stations
Karnataka has emerged as a leader in the establishment of operational charging stations run by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), surpassing several major Indian states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. Currently, Uttar Pradesh holds the top position with 2,893 charging stations in its network, while Karnataka has made significant strides in expanding its infrastructure to support electric vehicles (EVs).
The growth of charging stations in Karnataka is aligned with the states initiatives to promote sustainable energy and reduce carbon emissions. The Karnataka Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy 2017 aims to encourage the adoption of electric mobility through various incentives and infrastructural support.
As of now, Karnataka is focusing on expanding its green energy initiatives, along with enhancing the charging network to meet the increasing demand for EVs. The state government is working closely with private sectors and OMCs to further develop this essential infrastructure, thereby supporting the national vision of transitioning to environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
The state’s advancements in this sector also reflect the broader trend across India, where the central government is pushing for increased adoption of electric vehicles as part of its broader climate change commitments.
