Defence Exports Reach Record ₹38,424 Crore in FY26, Marking a 63% Year-On-Year Increase
The recent report from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) highlights a significant achievement in the defense sector, showcasing a near-equal contribution from both public and private entities to defense exports. According to the data, Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) accounted for 54.84% of total defense exports, while the private sector made up 45.16%.
This milestone illustrates the growing role of private companies in Indias defense economy, which has traditionally been dominated by public sector organizations. The increase in private sector participation is a strategic move by the Indian government to enhance domestic production and reduce reliance on foreign imports, in alignment with the Make in India initiative.
The MoDs initiative aims to foster a more robust defense manufacturing ecosystem in the country by incentivizing private players, facilitating easier access to government contracts, and bolstering research and development. As India seeks to become a major defense exporter globally, these figures suggest a promising trend towards achieving self-reliance and boosting the economy.
