Khandre Announces Completion of Repairs on Elephant Trenches and Solar Fences in Kodagu

The Minister has highlighted that 38% of fatalities resulting from human-wildlife conflict in the State occur within the Kodagu district. In response to this alarming statistic, the Minister has instructed local officials to enhance patrolling efforts in the area.

Kodagu, known for its rich biodiversity and coffee plantations, has experienced an uptick in human-wildlife interactions, particularly with species such as elephants and wild boars. The government is focusing on implementing strategies to mitigate these conflicts, which includes not only increased patrolling but also community awareness programs to educate residents on coexisting with wildlife. Efforts may also involve creating wildlife corridors and addressing land use practices to minimize encroachments into animal habitats. This multi-faceted approach aims to reduce incidents and safeguard both human and animal populations in the region.
