Khandre Announces Completion of Elephant Trench and Solar Fence Repairs in Kodagu

The Minister highlighted that 38% of fatalities resulting from human-wildlife conflict in the state are reported in Kodagu district. To address this alarming statistic, he has instructed local officials to enhance patrolling efforts in the area.

Kodagu, located in the Western Ghats of India, is known for its rich biodiversity and unique wildlife, including elephants and leopards, which often come into contact with human populations. This interaction can lead to dangerous and sometimes fatal encounters. The increase in patrolling aims to ensure both human safety and the protection of wildlife, creating a more sustainable coexistence.

In addition to increased patrolling, the government may explore further initiatives, such as community awareness programs and wildlife protection measures, to mitigate these conflicts effectively. The focus will also be on gathering data to identify hotspots for conflict and developing strategies to prevent future incidents.
