Kozhikode District: 10 of 13 Incumbent MLAs to Run in Kerala Assembly Elections 2026; CPI(M) Does Not Field Woman Candidate

Following the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections, the political landscape in Kozhikode saw the Left Democratic Front (LDF) securing a significant majority. The LDF, which is a coalition of leftist parties in Kerala, was elected with 11 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) representing the region. In contrast, the United Democratic Front (UDF), a coalition comprising mainly the Indian National Congress and other centrist parties, managed to secure only two elected representatives in Kozhikode.

This outcome reflects the ongoing political dynamics within the state, where the LDF has traditionally held strong influence in several districts, including Kozhikode. The 2021 elections were notable, as they took place amidst various challenges, including the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and various local economic issues. The results may also indicate shifts in voter sentiment and party loyalty in the region, which continues to be a focal point in Keralas political discourse.
