Maharashtra Government Plans Ban on Plastic Flowers Usage

Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtras Deputy Chief Minister, addressed concerns raised by BJP Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Sadashiv Khot regarding the rising use of plastic flowers. Khot highlighted that the proliferation of synthetic floral products is adversely affecting the livelihoods of local floriculture farmers.

Fadnavis acknowledged the issue and emphasized the importance of supporting the agricultural sector. He noted that the state government is considering measures to promote natural flower cultivation and protect local farmers’ interests, which may include regulatory frameworks around the sale and use of plastic flowers.

The floriculture industry in Maharashtra significantly contributes to the states economy, providing employment opportunities and supporting rural livelihoods. Calls for legislative action or initiatives to boost the market for natural flowers could become a priority as discussions continue.
