CSK’s Young Core: The Team on the Verge of Finding Its Rhythm

The young brigade of Chennai Super Kings may need just a match or two to bounce back in the ongoing TATA IPL 2026. While the talent is evident, the right blend within the squad is yet to fully reflect in team chemistry and match strategy.

In this context, MS Dhoni appears to be making the right call by stepping aside to help build that missing cohesion. His intent clearly points toward strengthening the team’s long-term balance rather than short-term dependency.

There is no doubt that Sanju Samson is a quality cricketer. However, despite his limited impact so far, CSK has managed to cross the 180-run mark in all three matches—an indication that the team is not reliant on any one individual.

If Samson can rediscover his World Cup form, it could significantly boost CSK’s campaign and help them climb the points table. Looking ahead, if CSK is to build a future beyond Dhoni, grooming a capable young leader becomes essential.

Ruturaj Gaikwad stands out as a strong captaincy prospect. With guidance from Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming, he has the right platform to grow. However, refining his on-field strategies—especially adapting to match situations, playing conditions, and opposition tactics—will be key to his evolution.

On-field captaincy is an art—it either comes naturally to an individual or is honed over time through experience. The Indian Premier League, being a club-format tournament, allows room for greater tactical intervention; coaches can step in during strategic timeouts to fine-tune decisions and enhance match-day performance.

If all the above are ensured together, we can confidently say that Chennai Super Kings will not underperform this season, and there is no need to alter the captaincy at this stage.

CSK’s journey, for now, is about aligning potential with execution. Once that clicks, the turnaround may not be far away.
