Congress Calls for Apology from PM Modi to Indian Women
Congress Member of Parliament Jairam Ramesh has called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologize for the delay in the implementation of the womens reservation law. This law, which aims to reserve 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, was passed in 2019 but has yet to be enacted into law.
Rameshs demand comes amid ongoing discussions about gender representation in Indian politics. He emphasized that the delay undermines efforts to enhance womens participation in governance and decision-making roles. The womens reservation bill, seen as a significant step toward gender equity, has been a topic of debate within political circles.
Advocates for womens rights have long criticized the slow progress in implementing this legislation, arguing that it would not only empower women but also promote a more balanced and inclusive political landscape. As discussions continue, the Congress MP urges immediate action to ensure the laws implementation, stressing the need for accountability in governance.
As of now, various womens organizations and political activists are also rallying for the swift execution of the law, highlighting its importance in addressing systemic gender biases in the political arena.
