Press Council of India Issues Advisory for Media on Election Reporting
The Press Council of India (PCI) has issued a recommendation for print media outlets to adhere to the “Guidelines on Election Reporting and Norms of Journalistic Conduct-2022.” This advisory aims to promote fair and responsible reporting during the election period, ensuring that media coverage is accurate, balanced, and free from bias.
In addition to the guidelines, the PCI emphasizes the importance of maintaining journalistic integrity and protecting the democratic process. The guidelines outline specific standards for reporting on electoral issues, including the need for fact-checking, avoiding sensationalism, and being mindful of the potential influence of media narratives on voter behavior.
The PCIs move comes ahead of upcoming elections, underscoring the critical role of the media in fostering informed public discourse. By adhering to these standards, print media can contribute to a more transparent and equitable electoral environment.
