India Bloc Raises Opposition to Delimitation Bill

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge clarified that opposition parties are not opposed to the Women’s Reservation Bill, which aims to reserve a certain percentage of legislative seats for women in Parliament and state assemblies. In his statement, Kharge emphasized the need for constructive dialogue and collaboration among parties to advance womens representation in government.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, originally introduced in 2008, aims to increase womens participation in the political process, addressing historical gender imbalances in Indian politics. If passed, the bill would reserve 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.

Kharges remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the bill in the Parliament, where various political factions have expressed differing views on the proposed legislation. Advocates of the bill argue that it is essential for empowering women and enhancing diversity in governance, while opponents have raised concerns about its implementation and the criteria for seat allocation.

As the legislative session progresses, the commitment from opposition leaders to support the bill could be crucial in gathering the necessary consensus for its passage.
