Keralas Public Hospitals Face Challenges Due to Accumulating KASP Dues

The government currently has outstanding payments amounting to ₹1,824 crore owed to both public and private hospitals under the Karnataka State Health Assistance Scheme (KASP) and other related health financing initiatives. This debt reflects the financial challenges faced by healthcare institutions that are providing free treatment to patients.

Reports indicate that even taluk-level hospitals, which are essential for delivering healthcare in rural areas, are awaiting reimbursements exceeding ₹1 crore each. The delays in payment are raising concerns about the sustainability of healthcare services and the ability of these hospitals to continue providing free medical care to the underserved populations.

In response to these issues, healthcare administrators and professionals have called for prompt government action to settle these dues, emphasizing the need for reliable funding mechanisms to ensure that hospitals can maintain operations and support patient care effectively. The situation underscores the importance of timely government funding in the healthcare system, especially in the wake of rising healthcare demands.
