NMC Suggests Revised Guidelines for Medical College Establishment and Enhanced Standards for PG Education
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has put forth proposed amendments to the “Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine (Amendment), Regulations 2026.” Among these proposals is the suggestion to establish a single-State license for doctors in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), allowing them to practice medicine across all states in India.
This initiative aims to streamline the licensing process for AFMS doctors, facilitating their ability to provide medical care in various regions without the need to obtain multiple state licenses. Currently, medical practitioners are required to register and obtain a license in each state where they wish to practice, which can be cumbersome and inefficient, particularly for those serving in the armed forces who may be deployed in various locations.
The proposed single-State license would not only enhance the mobility of AFMS medical professionals but also improve access to healthcare services in both military and civilian contexts across the country. The NMCs amendments are part of ongoing efforts to reform medical education and regulation in India, ensuring better healthcare delivery and addressing the challenges faced by healthcare providers.
Further discussions and consultations are expected before the final implementation of these amendments, and stakeholders from the medical community will likely weigh in on the implications of such regulatory changes.
