Bihar Chief Minister Criticizes Opposition Regarding Womens Quota Bill
Samrat Choudhary has described the recent failure of the Constitution amendment bill in the Lok Sabha as a “black day” for womens representation in India. He criticized political parties, particularly the Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC), for undermining efforts to implement women’s reservation.
The amendment sought to reserve a certain percentage of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, an initiative that has been under discussion for several years and aimed at improving gender parity in political representation. Proponents argue that such measures are necessary to empower women and ensure their participation in the democratic process.
Opposition to the bill has stemmed from various political factions, with debates focusing on the implications of reservation policies and their impact on the electoral landscape. As of now, the future of the women’s reservation effort remains uncertain following this setback in the Lok Sabha.
