A Historical Overview of Tamil Nadus Assembly Election Result Waits Over the Decades

In a historic development for Tamil Nadu, the state implemented Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in all 234 Assembly segments during the 2001 Assembly elections. This marked the first comprehensive use of EVMs across the entire state, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of the voting process.

The deployment of EVMs was part of a broader initiative to modernize the electoral process, which also saw simultaneous rollouts in other regions, including Kerala, Puducherry, and West Bengal. The introduction of these machines aimed to reduce errors, expedite vote counting, and increase voter confidence in the electoral system.

Prior to this, Tamil Nadu had predominantly relied on traditional ballot papers, which were often subject to various challenges, including manipulation and delays in results announcement.
