Govandi Residents File Complaints with BMC Regarding Delay in Pre-Monsoon Desilting Work
Abdi Abas Sayyed, a lawyer and resident of Govandi, has raised concerns regarding the absence of pre-monsoon desilting activities within several municipal wards. He specifically noted that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not initiated desilting efforts in wards 134, 136, 137, 138, 139, 140, and 141.
Desilting is a critical process aimed at preventing flooding during the monsoon season by clearing sediment and debris from drainage systems. With the monsoon season approaching, community members are increasingly anxious about potential waterlogging and related issues. The BMC typically undertakes these activities in advance to ensure that the city’s drainage infrastructure is capable of managing heavy rainfall effectively.
As the monsoon season generally commences in June, local residents and civic officials are calling for the prompt initiation of these essential desilting operations to mitigate the risk of flooding and enhance urban drainage efficiency. The BMC has been encouraged to provide a timeline for the commencement of these crucial works.
