Kudumbashree Women Farmers Achieve Strong Turnover with Watermelon Production

Kudumbashree, a poverty alleviation and womens empowerment program in Kerala, has announced a significant achievement in its agricultural initiative, Venal Madhuram. Women farmers participating in the program have generated a turnover of ₹6.78 crore from watermelon cultivation across 758 acres this year. This figure marks nearly a twofold increase compared to the previous year’s earnings.

The Venal Madhuram initiative aims to enhance the livelihoods of women farmers by promoting sustainable and profitable agriculture practices. The program focuses on various aspects of farming, including training, resource management, and market access, ensuring that participants are equipped to optimize their production.

In addition to watermelons, Kudumbashree encourages diversification of crops, which is essential for soil health and economic resilience. This years success reflects not only the dedication of the participating farmers but also the impact of strategic support provided by the Kudumbashree program, which has been instrumental in fostering community-led agricultural practices in Kerala.
