External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on May 8, 2026, marking the final destination of his three-nation diplomatic tour. The tour included visits to Jamaica and Suriname, where the Minister engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing trade partnerships, and addressing regional challenges.

During his visit to Jamaica, Jaishankar met with Prime Minister Andrew Holness to discuss cooperation in areas such as tourism, agriculture, and technology. In Suriname, his talks with President Chandrikapersad Santokhi emphasized the importance of cultural ties and economic collaboration.

This diplomatic mission highlights Indias commitment to fostering closer ties with Caribbean nations, which is part of its broader strategy to enhance engagement with countries in the Global South.
