Official Data Reveals Fourteen Lakh Kanals of State Land Encroached in Jammu and Three Lakh in Kashmir

Recent data has highlighted significant regional disparities in the encroachment of state land in Jammu. Seven districts in the region have recorded over 100,000 kanals of encroached state land, indicating widespread unauthorized occupation. Notably, two of these districts have exceeded the alarming threshold of 200,000 kanals of encroachment.

The data raises concerns about land management and regulatory enforcement in Jammu, where state land is designated for public use and development. Encroachments can lead to challenges in governance, including conflicts over land rights, hindering economic development, and affecting local communities access to resources.

The government has been urged to address these issues by implementing stricter land-use policies and improving monitoring systems to prevent further encroachment. Understanding the underlying causes of these encroachments—such as population growth, urban expansion, and lack of awareness—will be crucial for formulating effective solutions.
