Government Increases Minimum Support Price for Paddy by ₹72 to ₹2,441 per Quintal; Sunflower Seed Price Rises by ₹622.
During a recent press briefing, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for farmers have been set with the objective of providing them with remunerative prices. He indicated that the MSPs are established to ensure that farmers receive at least 50% above the cost of production for each of the 14 designated crops.
The MSP system is an integral part of Indias agricultural policy, aimed at enhancing the income of farmers by guaranteeing them a minimum price for their produce. The crops included under this scheme typically encompass staples such as rice, wheat, and pulses, as well as oilseeds and commercial crops like cotton and sugarcane.
Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that this pricing strategy is vital to support farmers and encourage agricultural sustainability. The government regularly reviews and adjusts the MSPs based on various factors, including changes in production costs, market trends, and inflation, aiming to strike a balance between farmers welfare and market dynamics.
