Horse in Chennai succumbs to contagious zoonotic disease; Tamil Nadu issues alert.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has recommended that state authorities take immediate action to isolate and monitor all equines housed with a horse that has tested positive for an infectious disease. This measure aims to prevent further spread of the virus and ensure the health of surrounding populations of equines.
Additionally, the ICAR has urged for testing to be conducted in adjacent areas to assess potential exposure and infection rates among other horses. This proactive approach is expected to help in early detection and containment of the outbreak, thereby safeguarding the health of equine populations in the region.
In response to the situation, the government is also planning to implement regulations on the inter-state movement of horses to prevent the disease from spreading beyond state borders. These measures underscore the importance of biosecurity in managing animal health and preventing outbreaks.
Equine owners are advised to remain vigilant and report any signs of illness in their animals. The ICAR and state veterinary services will be monitoring the situation closely and providing support as needed.
