Indian Tobacco Product Exports Decrease by 34.81%; Andhra Pradesh Farmers Affected by Oversupply and Taxation

The Tobacco Board has authorized the production of 142 million kilograms of Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco for the 2025-26 crop year. However, farmers in Andhra Pradesh surpassed this limit by producing 230 million kilograms. This overproduction has contributed to declining auction prices for FCV tobacco, reflecting a market adjustment to the surplus supply.

Additionally, the export market for FCV tobacco has experienced a significant contraction, with figures showing a decline of 34.81% in exports. Several factors influence this downturn, including changes in global demand, increased competition from other tobacco-producing countries, and shifts in health regulations affecting tobacco sales worldwide.
