Karnataka Develops Plan to Provide 2.5 TMCFT of Cauvery Water from Kollegal to Bengalurus Industrial Zones
Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil recently addressed concerns regarding water allocation for industrial purposes, revealing that the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal had designated 4 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft) of water for this sector. However, he noted that current utilization stands at only 1.37 tmcft.
This discrepancy in water usage raises questions about efficiency and the potential for increased industrial development within the region. The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, established to resolve long-standing conflicts over water sharing among states in southern India, aims to ensure a fair distribution of water resources, particularly between Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry.
Minister Patil emphasized the importance of maximizing the use of allocated water to support industrial growth while also addressing the need for sustainable water management practices within industries. He called on industry stakeholders to optimize their water consumption and explore innovative solutions to enhance efficiency in water usage. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to balance industrial development with responsible environmental stewardship in the Cauvery River basin.
