U.P. Advances Multi-faceted Strategy to Enhance Sewerage System and Mitigate River Pollution
Under the Namami Gange Mission Phase-2, the state of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) has initiated a significant upgrade to its sewerage infrastructure, aimed at preventing untreated sewage from flowing directly into rivers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance water quality in the Ganges River and its tributaries, which are critical to both the environment and local communities.
The Additional Chief Secretary of the Namami Ganga and Rural Drinking Water Supply Department in U.P. announced that these improvements will ensure better management of wastewater, thereby reducing pollution levels in the regions waterways.
The Namami Gange Mission is a flagship program of the Indian government launched in 2014, focused on cleaning and conserving the Ganges River. Phase-2 of the mission builds upon earlier efforts and includes extensive projects for sewage treatment, riverfront development, and increasing public awareness about river conservation.
This development aligns with Indias broader commitment to sustainable environmental practices and improving public health by safeguarding water resources.
