Indian Air Force Announces Technical Branch Openings via GATE, Waives AFCAT Written Exam Requirement

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced the introduction of a new entry pathway for its Technical Branch, enabling engineering graduates to apply using their Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores. This new route exempts candidates from the initial written exam of the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), allowing for direct shortlisting for selection boards.

The initiative aims to streamline the recruitment process for technical roles within the IAF, catering to the needs of engineering graduates while still maintaining AFCAT as the primary entry mechanism for all branches of the Indian Air Force. Candidates interested in this opportunity must meet the eligibility criteria, which include having a relevant engineering degree and meeting age and physical standards.

This development marks a significant shift in the recruitment approach of the IAF, reflecting a growing recognition of the importance of established academic assessments like GATE in evaluating candidates technical proficiency. It is expected to attract a wider pool of applicants, ultimately enriching the technical workforce of the Air Force.

As part of the recruitment process, candidates will still need to successfully go through the selection boards where various assessments, including interviews and medical examinations, will be conducted.
