Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing Commences Official Visit to India
Aung Hlaing, the military leader of Myanmar, began his official visit to India by arriving in Gaya, where he toured the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its significance in Buddhist history. The temple is located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, and is believed to be the place where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment.
Following his visit to Gaya, Aung Hlaing is scheduled to continue his trip to New Delhi. This visit comes at a time when Myanmar is facing international scrutiny due to the ongoing political and humanitarian crises following the military coup in February 2021. Aung Hlaings trip is expected to address various diplomatic issues and could possibly involve discussions on regional security cooperation, trade, and the situation in Myanmar.
India has expressed concerns over the unrest in Myanmar, given the shared border and the impact of the crisis on regional stability. Aung Hlaings engagement with Indian officials may focus on fostering bilateral relations amid these challenging circumstances.
