Congress Criticizes RSS-Related Task Forces for PESA and FRA Implementation in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has raised concerns regarding what he perceives as a deliberate undermining of the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996, and the Forest Rights Act, 2006. Ramesh suggested that certain task forces, which hold executive responsibilities, are not adhering to the intended principles of these laws, thus jeopardizing their core objectives.

The Panchayat Act aims to empower local self-governments in scheduled areas, enhancing democratic governance and community participation in decision-making processes. Meanwhile, the Forest Rights Act is designed to recognize and vest forest rights in local communities, ensuring their livelihoods and cultural identity are protected.

Rameshs remarks highlight growing concerns among various stakeholders about the implementation of these legislations. Advocacy groups and political leaders emphasize the importance of maintaining the integrity of these laws to protect the rights of indigenous and rural populations. Further scrutiny is expected regarding the activities and decisions of these task forces to ensure they align with the goals of social justice and environmental conservation outlined in the aforementioned acts.
