Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Leads Legislators to Restricted Forest Area in Srinagar for Review of 19-Month National Conference Governance

Legislators from the National Conference (NC) are advocating for an expansion of ministerial positions in Jammu and Kashmir, as three ministerial seats have remained unfilled since Mr. Omar Abdullah assumed the role of Chief Minister in October 2024. This ongoing situation has raised concerns among NC members regarding governance and representation in the region.

The vacant positions have created a perception of ineffective governance, prompting calls from party legislators for a reevaluation of the current cabinet structure. In this context, the NC’s push for additional ministerial berths aims to enhance the states decision-making capabilities and ensure comprehensive oversight of various portfolios.

As of now, Jammu and Kashmir has been undergoing significant political changes and challenges, particularly following the abrogation of its special status in August 2019. The need for a functional and responsive government remains paramount, as the region navigates various socio-economic issues. The NC hopes that expanding the cabinet will not only address the vacancies but also improve the efficiency of the state government moving forward.
