Southwest Monsoon Begins in Kerala, According to IMD Updates for 2026

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for six districts in Kerala due to heavy rainfall affecting the region. The districts under alert include Idukki, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Wayanad, and Ernakulam.

The adverse weather conditions are attributed to a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea, which is expected to bring significant rainfall and possible flooding in susceptible areas. The IMD has advised local authorities to remain vigilant and has urged residents to exercise caution, especially in low-lying regions.

Emergency services and disaster management teams are on standby to respond to any incidents that may arise as a result of the heavy rains. Citizens are advised to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation closely, updating forecasts and alerts as needed.
