Census for Resettlement Initiated Ahead of Great Nicobar Project Development

The Great Nicobar Island mega-infrastructure project has issued a notice requesting all families impacted by the trunk infrastructure component to prepare approximately 24 different types of documents for the upcoming census process.

This census is a critical step in assessing the needs and impacts of the project on local communities, which aims to enhance connectivity and economic opportunities on the island. Families are advised to gather documentation that may include identification proof, land ownership records, and other relevant information to facilitate an accurate and efficient census.

As part of the project, the government plans to develop various infrastructural elements, including roads, ports, and utilities, which could significantly alter the landscape of Great Nicobar Island. The assessment will play an essential role in ensuring that the benefits of the project are equitably distributed and that the concerns of affected families are addressed appropriately.
