Four foreign universities, including UNSW in the QS top 20 and Bristol in the QS top 100, receive approval to establish campuses in India.
India has officially granted Letters of Approval to four prominent foreign universities—University of Bristol, University of York, UNSW (University of New South Wales), and the University of Liverpool—to establish campuses in the country under the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This initiative significantly enhances the presence of international higher education institutions in India.
The University of Bristol and the University of York are set to establish their campuses in Mumbai, while UNSW and the University of Liverpool will set up in Bengaluru. The University of Bristol is planning to commence admissions in August 2026, aiming to enroll an initial cohort of 250 students.
This development follows previous approvals received by other foreign institutions, marking a notable shift in Indias approach to higher education and an effort to foster greater academic collaboration on a global scale. With expectations of six to seven campuses opening by the academic year 2026-27, this initiative is poised to contribute to the diversification of educational opportunities available for Indian students and enhance the quality of higher education in the region.
