Maiden Test Flight Successfully Conducted for Indias First Indigenous C-295 Aircraft

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is in the process of acquiring 56 C-295 transport aircraft, with an estimated cost of approximately ₹21,935 crore ($2.6 billion). This procurement aims to enhance the air mobility and logistical capabilities of the IAF, particularly for troop transport, disaster relief operations, and logistical support in remote areas.

The C-295 aircraft, manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space, is known for its versatility and ability to operate in diverse environments. It can carry a payload of up to 9 tons and is equipped with advanced avionics, which improve its operational effectiveness in tactical missions.

Additionally, this deal supports Indias strategic initiative to bolster indigenous defense production, as a significant portion of these aircraft will be manufactured locally under the Make in India program. The production is expected to take place at a facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, which aims to create jobs and grow the local aerospace sector. The introduction of the C-295 into the IAF fleet is anticipated to facilitate improved operational readiness and enhanced logistical support for the Armed Forces.
