Exporters Request Andhra Pradesh to Regulate High-Risk Pesticides in Chilli Following Chinas Stance
The Chillies Exporters Association has formally requested a ban on the use of two pesticides, Acephate and Methamidophos, highlighting concerns over pesticide residue violations that could jeopardize Indias chilli export market to China.
Chilli exports are a significant component of Indias agricultural trade, with China being one of the largest importers. The association emphasizes that stringent residue standards enforced by Chinese authorities necessitate compliance from exporters to maintain access to this vital market. The use of Acephate and Methamidophos has raised alarms due to potential health risks and environmental impact associated with these chemicals, leading to increased scrutiny from importing countries.
In recent years, the Indian chilli export sector has faced challenges linked to residue levels, which could potentially result in trade barriers or bans if not addressed. The Chillies Exporters Association is advocating for the adoption of safer alternatives and improved agricultural practices to ensure compliance with international standards and sustain the export business.
