NTA Chief States Telegram Received Prior Warnings Regarding Misuse Before Ban Implementation

Telegrams founder had previously pledged to enhance the visibility of the “edited” label on messages within the application. However, as noted by Abhishek Singh, Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), this commitment has not yet been fulfilled. Singh emphasized the need for Telegram to comply with established communication norms to ensure transparency and accountability within the platform.

The “edited” label serves as an important feature for users, as it informs them if a message has been altered after its initial posting. This is particularly significant in the context of combating misinformation and promoting trust in digital communications. Singhs comments highlight ongoing concerns related to online communication standards and the responsibilities of tech companies in managing user-generated content.

In recent years, messaging platforms like Telegram have faced scrutiny over their roles in the spread of false information and their approach to moderating content. The expected changes to the editing feature could play a critical role in addressing these concerns and fostering a safer online environment for users.
