Kerala Budget Outlines Strategy for Development as a Leading Unified Port City
In its latest budget proposal, the government aims to leverage the integrated strengths of the states extensive 600-kilometer coastline, which includes 17 non-major ports and two major ports. This initiative seeks to enhance the efficiency and connectivity of the states transportation systems by capitalizing on its comprehensive network of roads, railways, sea routes, and inland waterways.
The coastal region is poised for development, potentially increasing trade and facilitating the movement of goods. Enhancements to this infrastructure could not only drive economic growth but also create jobs in sectors such as shipping, logistics, and tourism. Furthermore, the integration of these transportation networks is expected to improve supply chain operations and promote regional development, particularly for industries dependent on maritime logistics. The state government is committed to ensuring that these developments align with sustainable practices to protect the marine ecosystem.
