Major Transportation Infrastructure Projects Omitted from Kerala Budget

The current budget allocation does not include references to the proposed high-speed rail initiative, known as the Sabari Rail project, nor does it address the Balaramapuram–Vizhinjam underground rail project. However, the budget has allocated ₹100 crore for the Balaramapuram–Navaikulam Ring Road project, which aims to enhance regional connectivity and infrastructure. Additionally, ₹20 crore has been designated for Light Metro projects, which are intended to improve urban transport in key areas.

Furthermore, a total of ₹200 crore has been set aside to support preliminary activities for a proposed aviation and logistics hub. This project is expected to facilitate enhanced transportation networks and economic growth in the region by potentially attracting new businesses and improving logistics efficiency.

The omission of the high-speed rail and underground rail projects from the budget has raised questions among stakeholders regarding future transportation development plans. Both projects are seen as vital for boosting connectivity in the region and reducing travel times. The inclusion of funding for the Ring Road project and Light Metro indicates a continued focus on improving local infrastructure, while the proposed aviation hub highlights the governments commitment to enhancing logistics capabilities.
