Three Indian-Flagged Oil Tankers Navigate the Strait of Hormuz
Three Indian-flagged crude oil tankers, transporting over 860,000 metric tons of cargo and staffed by 94 Indian crew members, have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz as of today. This information was confirmed by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway for global oil transportation, linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Approximately 20% of the worlds crude oil passes through this narrow passage, making it a strategic chokepoint in the energy supply chain.
The transit of these tankers is significant, given the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region, as well as the critical role played by Indian shipping in international trade. The Ministry of Shipping has been actively engaged in ensuring the safety and security of Indian vessels operating in these waters. The successful passage of these tankers demonstrates the resilience of Indian maritime operations amidst global shipping challenges.
