Sports Ministry to Establish Task Force to Evaluate Feasibility of Hosting Formula 1 Race in India

India is making preparations to potentially welcome back a Formula 1 race, as the Sports Ministry has established a task force to assess the feasibility of hosting the event. This initiative comes after consultations with various stakeholders in the motorsports industry, indicating a strong interest in reviving this high-profile racing event in the country.

The government is focusing on a target date of 2028 for the return of Formula 1 to the Buddh International Circuit, located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The circuit previously hosted Formula 1 races from 2011 to 2013 but has since seen a decline in top-tier motorsport events.

In recent years, India has put significant investment into developing its sports infrastructure, as motorsports gain popularity among fans. The task force will evaluate several factors, including economic benefits, infrastructure readiness, and regional interest, before making recommendations on how to proceed.

Should the initiative move forward, it could mark a significant step in restoring Indias status as a host nation for international motorsport, further enhancing the experience for fans and offering a boost to the local economy through tourism and related activities.
