PM Modi Announces Yoga as the Worlds Largest Community Celebration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that June 21, the summer solstice, is now recognized globally as International Day of Yoga. This designation aims to promote awareness of the physical and mental benefits of practicing yoga, which has roots in ancient Indian philosophy.
The establishment of the International Day of Yoga was initiated following a proposal by Prime Minister Modi in September 2014 during his address to the United Nations General Assembly. The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated on June 21, 2015, and has since garnered participation from millions of individuals worldwide.
The observance underscores the significance of yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being, encouraging individuals to integrate its practices into their daily lives for enhanced physical health and mental clarity. Various events and activities, including mass yoga sessions, workshops, and community gatherings, take place around the globe to mark this occasion.
