Diplomatic Community Participates in Yoga Day Celebrations
On June 21, 2023, the world celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga, a global event dedicated to promoting the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. This years theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighted the significance of yoga as a practice that supports wellness across all age groups, particularly in promoting healthy ageing.
Initiated by the United Nations in 2014, the International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga and its ability to contribute to the overall health and well-being of individuals. Various events were organized across the globe, including workshops, community classes, and public demonstrations, allowing practitioners and newcomers alike to engage with the practice.
Research has shown that yoga can enhance flexibility, strength, and balance, which are vital components for maintaining mobility and preventing falls in older adults. Additionally, regular practice of yoga can aid in stress reduction and emotional well-being, contributing to a healthier lifestyle. As the population ages, initiatives like the International Day of Yoga serve to inspire individuals to incorporate yoga into their daily routines, regardless of age or physical ability.
