West Bengal Budget: Finance Minister Announces Plans to Fill 100,000 Government Vacancies, with 33% Reserved for Women
West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta announced a significant 20% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees during a recent press conference. This adjustment aims to help mitigate the impact of inflation on public sector workers and is expected to benefit approximately 1.5 million government employees and pensioners in the state.
In addition to the DA hike, the Minister unveiled a substantial allocation of ₹36,000 crore for the Annapurna Yojana, a financial assistance scheme designed to support women. This initiative is likely to enhance the economic empowerment of women by providing them with the necessary resources to improve their livelihoods.
Furthermore, the West Bengal government has announced plans to revive the Calcutta Stock Exchange, a historical financial institution that has been inactive for several years. The revival is anticipated to bolster the state’s financial landscape and promote investment opportunities. The government has not yet disclosed specific timelines or details regarding the operational framework for the exchanges revival.
These initiatives reflect the state government’s broader efforts to foster economic growth, support public sector employees, and empower women across West Bengal.
