Government Tightens FCRA Regulations for NGOs

In a recent directive, regulatory authorities have outlined specific requirements for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) regarding their operational activities and transparency measures. NGOs are now required to adhere strictly to the activities defined within their registered categories and the geographical regions where they operate.

Additionally, these organizations must disclose their social media accounts, official websites, and any publications they produce. This is intended to enhance transparency and accountability among NGOs. The directive also stipulates that NGOs are prohibited from engaging in political content.

Further, to streamline operations, a separate fee will be instituted for each category of activity and for each state or Union Territory (UT) in which an NGO is active. This measure aims to ensure that NGOs remain focused on their mission and comply with regulatory frameworks.

These regulations come amid increasing scrutiny of the NGO sector and aim to foster greater trust and integrity within this critical segment of civil society. Compliance with these guidelines will be monitored by the relevant authorities to ensure adherence and accountability.
